VARIETY MERLOT

“Self-reliant ruby that shines when necessary”

French variety that was introduced to Brda in the beginning of the 19 th century. Soon it was planted on the flatlands. However from the years of experiences we have observed that the best merlot wines can be crafted only on carefully selected plots on slopes.

The leaf is medium size, three or five lobbed, usually dark green and covered with trichomes on the bottom side.

Bunch is small, compact with two wings and attached to a long pedicel. Berry is small and round, sweet when fully ripe.

Due to the susceptibility of Merlot to fungal diseases vineyard management is important. Our Merlot vineyards are regularly defoliated during the season, yield control is performed rigorously as well as the cover crop is managed to remain low.

Variety is well suited for guyot trellis system and grows well in sunny, less humid expositions on well drained soils.  Dedication to the variety is also given to in the winery. In good vintages Merlot wines of excellent quality that can be aged in the barrels and in the bottles can be produced.

A ruby that glitters in your glass.

OUR RECOMMENDATION

The wine pairs perfectly with red meat, and also with pasta or gnocchi served with stronger, spicy and seasoned tomato sauce. A tip for younger who loves pizzas - this merlot perfectly combines with different types of pizza. Do not believe it, try it?! Do not forget that this wine should be consumed at temperatures between 14 and 16 °C.
