The winery Benedetič is located on the fringe of Goriška Brda, in Western Slovenia, bordering the Italian wine-growing area of Collio where the rolling-hill landscape of the “Brda” slowly meets the lowlands of the Friuli plain.

“The vineyards were named after the specific rocks in the region, called "balote" in the local dialect, which can be found across the vineyards even nowadays.”

01 The Winery

The knowledge of winegrowing and winemaking has been handed down from generation to generation at the Benedetič’s ever since 1923, when Valentin Keber and his son-in-law Andrej Benedetič purchased 2 hectares of vineyards – bearing the name Brgalotišče – from the bankrupt count Teuffenbach.

The careful management of the succeeding generations and the expansion of the winery result in an overall 12 hectares of the finest vineyards today.

These are located on 12 different locations, a fact that makes cultivation slightly more difficult on the one side, however, the particularities of each micro location on the other side remarkably impart our wines with a wide range of diversity and character. When it comes to the whites, special attention is given to the local varieties Rebula (Ribolla gialla) and Sauvignonasse (formerly Tocai friulano, Tai), while the international varieties Chardonnay, Pinot  gris also find their place among our product range.  As to the reds, we take pride in Merlot and Cabernet sauvignon.

04 Vineyards

With the rendering of nummulites on the wine label, the Benedetič family winery announces that their vines grow on the soils, which were formed at least 60 million years ago.

At that time, due to the formation processes of the Alps and the Dinarides, the sea left behind the protozoans, fossil, which can still be seen in their vineyards ‘the nummulites’ are living witnesses of those ancient times.

The Benedetič family call these nummulits as “novčiči” (“coins”), because of their shape and size. Because of their unique shape and elegance and the story they are telling, they have also become the symbol of our winery and wines. Just the spirals are intertwined on the nummutes, so the characters our wines are intertwined and do not leave you indifferent.

Our wine

Tradition and experience are not a coincidence.

We respect the tradition and the effort of our ancestors while following state of the art trends in wine-growing and cultivation in general.

Since we care about the environment, our grape and wines are produced in accordance with the environmentally-sounds practices, and grape is harvested exclusively by hand.
